Cancer screening at Helix Advanced Medicine is built in layers. First: age- and sex-appropriate standard screening (colon, breast, cervix, lung when smoking history qualifies, prostate discussion, skin, and others as indicated). Then, when it would change care, we add laboratory tools: liquid biopsy, selected tumor and other biomarkers, inflammatory markers, and genetic markers.
No blood test finds every cancer. No blood test proves you are “clear.” Abnormal labs start a workup. Reassuring labs do not cancel a delayed colonoscopy.
Liquid biopsy
Liquid biopsy looks in blood for signals that may come from tumor DNA or related patterns (for example methylation signatures used in some multi-cancer early detection assays). We may discuss this when you want an additive screen after guideline tests are current, family history is high and you understand false positives, or a clinician needs a blood-based adjunct—not a shortcut around imaging. A positive result is not a diagnosis. A negative result is not a cure certificate. Insurance often does not cover these tests; we will say so before the draw.
Tumor markers and other blood biomarkers
Classic tumor markers were built mainly for monitoring known disease or for a focused suspicion. Most are poor stand-alone screens in people with no history and no symptom. We do not run a “full tumor-marker panel” as an annual wellness ritual. Random panels create anxiety and extra scans more often than they save lives. We use informed and shared decision-making when ordering these tests.
