Point-of-care ultrasound is clinician-performed imaging at the bedside—not a trip to an imaging center for every question. At Helix Advanced Medicine we use POCUS to answer focused questions the same visit. POCUS is a decision tool. It is not a substitute for a formal echocardiogram, CT, MRI, or a radiology-read vascular study when those are the right test.
What we scan in office
- Cardiac — focused views of heart size, squeeze, pericardial fluid, and selected valve questions, including Doppler when it changes whether a formal cardiology consultation is needed
- Musculoskeletal — joints, tendons, bursae, sports injuries, and landmarks for injection
- Abdominal — focused questions such as gallbladder signs, hydronephrosis, free fluid, and bladder volume
- Vascular — selected arterial and venous questions; a limited POCUS does not rule out pulmonary embolism or all deep-vein thrombosis
- Ocular — focused globe assessment when clinically indicated
Ultrasound-guided joint injections
We use POCUS to place medication into the intended joint or bursa. Guidance improves precision. It does not make every injection appropriate. If the joint is not the right target, we do not inject it because the machine is in the room.
